Korean Peninsula: Timely Opportunity

Havana, September 19 (KCNA) -- The Prensa Latina News Agency of Cuba reported an article titled "Korean Peninsula: Timely Opportunity" on Saturday.

The six-party talks for the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula are expected to open a new chapter, the article said, adding:

The China Institute of International Studies is to sponsor a symposium on September 19, the anniversary of a joint statement adopted in 2005.

The gathering itself involving participants in the six-party talks signifies a possible solution to the issue of the Korean peninsula, one of the regions where the situation is most acute in the world.

The DPRK and U.S. representatives already had talks in New York and discussed improving the bilateral relations.

DPRK Leader Kim Jong Il reaffirmed the country's will to resume the six-party talks without preconditions during his Russia and China visit.

In view of all the facts, the atmosphere of the long-depressed six-party talks is likely to be renewed.

It is reasonable to expect that the process of denuclearization and peace will move ahead.
