Pyongyang, September 22 (KCNA) -- More than 10 south Korean civic and public organizations including the Solidarity for Implementing the South-North Joint Declaration, the Association for Supporting Prisoners of Conscience of the Family Movement for Realizing Democracy, the south Korean Confederation of Trade Unions and the People for Achieving Peace and Reunification staged the 144th action for independence, reunification and peace in Seoul on Sept. 20.

The organizations recalled the whistleblower website WikiLeaks disclosed the fact that the construction of a naval base on Jeju Island was undertaken as intended by the U.S.

The authorities have so far pushed ahead with the base construction under the pretence of protecting marine navigation route, but it is, in actuality, aimed at carrying out the U.S. policy of aggression, they said, and went on:

The present ruling quarters are pushing forward the base construction, justifying their preparations for a war of aggression with absurd logic.

The construction of naval base should be stopped at once as it is disturbing peace and environment.

The authorities should halt the moves to conclude the humiliating FTA with the U.S. and thoroughly investigate the U.S. forces' pollution of the land of Korea with poisonous chemical materials, they demanded.
