Pyongyang, September 23 (KCNA) -- The Citizen's Solidarity for Democratic Society of south Korea issued a statement under the title of "The government and naval force should immediately halt the illegal base project".

The statement expressed irrepressible resentment at the "government" and the navy pushing forward the naval base project in Kangjong village on Jeju Island, severely destroying the natural environment and defying the protest from people of various social standings.

The authorities hastened the base construction for fear of the project being curbed before its completion as the injustice of the project was made clearer, the statement held.

Watching the authorities' hastening of the project, people came to reconfirm that the authorities are not able to come to understanding with them or negotiate with them.

It urged the "government" and the navy to halt the base construction at once.
