Pyongyang, September 28 (KCNA) -- One year has passed since a historic conference of the Workers' Party of Korea was held in September 2010. Over the past one year, the Korean People's Army (KPA) has taken the lead in upholding Kim Jong Il's Songun (military-first) leadership and fully demonstrated its might as the armed forces of the party and the supreme commander in defending the country and accelerating socialist construction.

In the period Kim Jong Il inspected some KPA units with an eye to preparing soldiers politically and ideologically and in military technique.

Thanks to the strong armed forces trained by him, signal achievements have been made in national defense and economic construction.

Hostile forces have never changed in their attempt to impede the DPRK's peaceful development and stifle its socialist society by force of arms.

The U.S. and south Korea staged the DPRK-targeted joint military exercises like Key Resolve, Foal Eagle and Ulji Freedom Guardian, driving the situation of the Korean peninsula to the brink of war.

The south Korean military perpetrated such heinous provocations as setting up slogans in frontline units, defaming the KPA, the social system of the DPRK and its dignity and fostering antagonism towards the DPRK.

A spokesman for the KPA Supreme Command in a statement denounced the reckless provocations and manifested the will to take retaliatory measures and accomplish the historic cause of national reunification.

In November last year the KPA reacted to south Korea's shelling into the DPRK's territorial waters from Yonphyong Islet in the West Sea of Korea with a prompt and strong physical strike.

KPA soldiers are playing a big role in the construction of the Huichon Power Station and many other economic projects.
