Pyongyang, October 4 (KCNA) -- A festival for peaceful reunification took place in Kaesong on Tuesday to observe the 4th anniversary of the October 4 declaration.

Attending it were representatives of the North Side Committee for Implementing June 15 Joint Declaration, the North Headquarters of the Pan-national Alliance for Korea's Reunification and the Pan-national Alliance of Youth and Students for Korea's Reunification and people from all walks of life, more than 1,000 persons in all.

An opening ceremony of the festival was followed by a seminar for implementing the north-south joint declaration.

The floor was taken by Won Hyong Guk, vice-chairman of the Workers Sub-Committee of the North Side Committee for Implementing June 15 Joint Declaration, Ho Yong Ryul, chairman of the North Headquarters of the Pan-national Alliance of Youth and Students for Korea's Reunification and vice-chairman of the Youth and Student Sub-Committee of the North Side Committee for Implementing June 15 Joint Declaration, and O Hye Son, vice-chairperson of the Media Sub-Committee of the North Side Committee for Implementing June 15 Joint Declaration.

They said that the adoption of the October 4 declaration was another historic event of the nation as it put strong spurs to the advance of the era of June 15 and paved a new wide avenue for peace of the country and its independent reunification.

They strongly denounced the south Korean puppet conservative group for making abortive the October 4 joint event of the nation to be held in Kaesong and Inchon and pursuing the confrontation with compatriots and a war.

The peace of the country and the future of reunification can be guaranteed through the implementation of the north-south declaration, they said, calling for dynamic actions to foil the puppet group's moves for escalating the confrontation with compatriots and igniting a war and clear all obstacles lying in the way of reunification including the "May 24 step".

They underscored the need to increase the role of the All-Korean Committee for Implementation of June 15 Joint Declaration for the purpose of intensifying contact and solidarity activities between organizations of different social standings and sectors.

They stressed the need to promote the nation-wide unity through diverse meetings and steadily advance the June 15 era of independent reunification.

An appeal of the All-Korean Committee for Implementation of June 15 Joint Declaration, agreed upon by the north, south and overseas committees, was adopted in the seminar.

A concert for reunification was given at the festival.

The participants looked round historic relics in Kaesong including Koryo Museum on the same day.
