Pyongyang, October 5 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the North Side Committee for Implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration issued a statement Wednesday as regards the fact that the joint national event for marking the 4th anniversary of the October 4 declaration could not be held due to the obstructions of the south Korean conservative authorities even though it had been pushed forward amid great expectation and interest of all Koreans in the north and the south and abroad.

The statement said:

As already known the North, South and Overseas Side Committees for Implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration agreed and made efforts to hold a joint national festival for peace and reunification on the 4th anniversary of the October 4 declaration out of desire to defuse acute confrontation and remove the danger of war on the Korean Peninsula and open up a new phase of national harmony and independent reunification under the banner of the north-south joint declarations.

The south Korean conservative authorities, however, checked the Kaesong working contact between representatives of the North and South Side Committees for the joint national event on Sept. 20, talking about "May 24 measure" and sort of "consideration". They also resorted to obstructions to deter the event from being held.

This has touched off towering grudge of all Koreans as it is an intolerable challenge to the desire of the nation for concord and reunification.

The North Side Committee bitterly denounces together with all other Koreans the south Korean conservative authorities' acts of checking the joint national event again in the wake of disrupting the June 15 joint national event as an unpardonable traitorous and anti-reunification crime.

The June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration, signed by the top leaders of the north and the south and supported and favored not only by Koreans but the world people, are declarations for national independence, declarations for great national unity and the great programme for national reunification which reflect the desire and wishes of all Koreans to put an end to the tragic division of the nation and reunify the country at an early date.

The implementation of the north-south joint declarations guarantees independence, peace, reunification and prosperity common to the nation.

Whoever truly wants improved north-south relations and national reunification should support and honestly implement the joint declarations.

The south Korean conservative authorities, however, desperately deterred NGOs in the north and the south and abroad from holding joint events for reunification even though they had been held on June 15 and other occasions in the past, not content with negating and violating the joint declarations. Therefore, it became impossible to hold them even once.

This proves that the south Korean puppet regime is buoyed by the idea of confrontation with fellow countrymen and it does not have an iota of willingness to improve the north-south relations.

No obstructions on the part of the regime can ever check the implementation of the north-south joint declarations deeply cherished by all the Koreans and whose validity and vitality have been clearly proven.

Its confrontation policy has been rejected by all the Koreans. Its persistence on the policy will precipitate its destruction.

The will of the Koreans to carry forward the June 15 era of reunification has become hardened.

The south Korean conservative authorities should clearly face up to the desire of the nation and the trend of the times and stop reckless anti-reunification acts.

All the Koreans will turn out in the vigorous nationwide struggle to wipe out the group of wicked anti-reunification traitors and defend and implement the north-south joint declarations and thus open a new phase of national reunification without fail.
