|
|
Pyongyang, October 5 (KCNA) -- Yun I Sang (1917-1995) is one of the composers the Korean people are proud of. He, born into a ruined peer family in South Kyongsang Province, had been interested in music from childhood and learned cello, musical theory and composition under difficulties in Seoul and abroad from the age of 17. He then taught music in his home village and at high schools and universities. Moving to Germany, he was active as professor and composer, creating a lot of musical works. In Juche 56 (1967) he was abducted and brought to south Korea to serve a two-year prison term for his activities for the democratization of south Korean society and the reunification of the country. It was thanks to the deep trust and concern of President Kim Il Sung and General Secretary Kim Jong Il that he began to live a patriotic life as a musician. Kim Il Sung invited Yun I Sang to Pyongyang and enjoyed his compositions together with him, highly appreciating his patriotic creative activities. Kim Jong Il had a concert hall and music institute named after him built in Pyongyang. He also took a measure to hold concerts and seminars on his musical works in Pyongyang on a regular basis. His compositions are characterized by a mixture of the East music lyricism and the West music technique. Some of his compositions are performed by celebrated orchestras and at famous theatres in the world. |
