Pyongyang, October 7 (KCNA) -- There is the mausoleum of King Tongmyong (298 B.C.-259 B.C.) in Ryongsan-ri, Ryokpho District, Pyongyang. Tongmyong was the founder of Koguryo kingdom (277 B.C.-668 A.D.) When Koguryo moved its capital to Pyongyang in 427, his remains were brought to the present location. The mausoleum was reconstructed in May Juche 82 (1993) under deep concern of President Kim Il Sung. Seen in front of its gate is a monument to the reconstructed mausoleum inscribed with the President's autograph. Stone sculptures of military and civil officials, horses and tigers stand on both sides of the mausoleum. Inside walls of the Koguryo-style shrine has mural paintings showing the history of the strong kingdom. |
