Beijing, October 10 (KCNA) -- A meeting marking the centenary of the 1911 revolution in China was held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Sunday.

Present there were senior party and state officials including President Hu Jintao.

Hu Jintao said in a speech at the meeting that the 1911 revolution carried out by members of the revolutionary party represented by Sun Zhongshan brought about unprecedented social changes in China.

He called on all the people to promote scientific development and social harmony and thus make redoubled efforts in unity to achieve the great prosperity of the Chinese nation.

A photo and art work exhibition was opened in Beijing on October 8 to commemorate the centenary of the revolution.

Meanwhile, a meeting was held in Wuhan City to mark the centenary of the 1911 revolution and Wuchang Uprising and the 1911 Revolution Memorial was inaugurated in Guangzhou City.

Various commemorative books were published.
