Pyongyang, October 12 (KCNA) -- A seminar took place at the Grand People's Study House in Pyongyang Wednesday with the approach of Global Handwashing Day 2011 (October 15.)

It was attended by officials of the Education Commission, the Ministry of Urban Management and other institutions concerned, and staff members of the UNICEF Pyongyang Bureau.

Song Yong Su, a department director of the ministry, and Bijaya Rajbhandari, representative of UNICEF, made speeches at the seminar.

Lectures were given under the titles "Global Handwashing Day and on Handwashing Activities Conducted in Various Regions of the World" and "On Situation of Handwashing Education in General Educational Institutions of the DPRK and Its Prospect." Then some teachers and schoolchildren introduced their experience.

The day has been observed in the country since 2008 in the way of providing people, particularly children, with a good understanding of handwashing with soap and encouraging them to make it a rule to do so.
