Pyongyang, October 12 (KCNA) -- The Yanbian regional federation of the General Association of Koreans in China and its affiliated branches and the Yanbian regional youth committee of the Youth Federation of Koreans in China held a commemoration meeting in Yanji City, Jilin Province of China on Oct. 4 on the fourth anniversary of the October 4 declaration.

Speakers said that under the wise leadership of Kim Jong Il the historic north-south summit was held and the October 4 declaration was adopted. It was events to be specially recorded in the history of advancing the movement for national reunification to a new phase under the banner of the June 15 joint declaration, they noted, and went on:

The adoption of the October 4 declaration helped the Korean nation make a big progress in the struggle for national reunification and prosperity.

However, no sooner had it come to power than the present regime of south Korea totally denied the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration and drove the inter-Korean relations to a catastrophe by pursuing confrontation policy.

The reality clearly proves that it is impossible to achieve peace and national reunification on the Korean Peninsula as long as the south Korean authorities are allowed to stay in power.

They called upon all the Koreans in China to turn out in the struggle to shatter the reckless anti-DPRK moves of war and confrontation on the part of the anti-reunification forces and open up a new phase for independent reunification by pooling efforts of the Korean nation.

A letter to leader Kim Jong Il was adopted at the meeting.
