Pyongyang, October 13 (KCNA) -- The Catholic Solidarity for Peaceful Jeju Island on Monday issued a declaration protesting against the puppet authorities' naval base construction on Jeju Island.

The reason why the people are opposing the construction is that it will operate as a U.S. base for aggression threatening peace in the Korean Peninsula and the rest of Northeast Asia, the declaration said.

It urged the authorities to halt the construction at once and make apology to Jeju islanders for suppressing their protest actions by riot forces.

The organization stated that it would hand the declaration to Chongwadae and wage an intensive struggle in Kangjong village of Jeju Island and Seoul.
