Pyongyang, October 15 (KCNA) -- Kazakhstan will not abandon plans to build a nuclear power plant, President Nursultan Nazarbayev said Wednesday at an international forum which opened in Astana.

"Forty countries are conducting research in the field of peaceful nuclear energy, 15 building or planning to build nuclear power plants. Kazakhstan is among them," he told.

Kazakhstan sees nuclear power as one of "its future innovation clusters," said the president.

"We will ensure a high level of security at all peaceful atom facilities," said Nazarbayev.
