Pyongyang, October 17 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun Monday editorially marks the 85th anniversary of the Down-with-Imperialism Union (DIU) formed by President Kim Il Sung.

The Korean revolution has demonstrated its invincibility for 85 years under the uplifted banner of independence, Songun and unity held high by the DIU.

The DIU has always served as soul of Korea and a signpost of victory.

The DIU kicked off its actions with a great action programme to crush imperialism, achieve national independence and build an ideal human society by its own efforts. As a result, the Korean revolution has advanced along a unique road of development.

The DIU became the historic roots of the Workers' Party of Korea.

The proud appearance of the DIU is reflected in the WPK's character and appearance. The DIU banner gave origin to the Songun revolution which calls for giving priority to military affairs and accomplishing the cause of independence against imperialism.

The DIU set an example of revolutionary unity.

The tradition of the DIU was a driving force for uninterrupted revolution and the lifeline of Songun Korea in the glorious history of the Korean revolution which has emerged ever-victorious under the leadership of the President and Kim Jong Il.

The Korean revolution is a dignified one which has steered the era of independence under the leadership of the President.

The DIU tradition has been successfully carried forward under the leadership of Kim Jong Il.

The Conference of the WPK held last year marked a historic occasion in developing the WPK into an eternal party of Kim Il Sung and increasing the party's leadership prestige in every way.

The Korean revolution can emerge ever-victorious and a bright future is in store for it only when the DIU tradition is firmly preserved. This is the truth taught by the 85-year-long history of the Korean revolution.

All the party members, servicepersons and people should become flames spreading all over the land and hammers breaking the chains and advance full of confidence towards a thriving nation under the Songun revolutionary leadership of Kim Jong Il just as the ardent fighters of the DIU remained intensely loyal to the President.
