Pyongyang, October 17 (KCNA) -- October 17 marks the 85th anniversary of the Down-with-Imperialism Union (DIU), which was a new-type revolutionary organization of Korea.

Drawing serious lessons from the preceding national movement and the early communist movement, President Kim Il Sung decided to take a different road, a road to an independent development of revolution.

He organized DIU on October 17, Juche 15 (1926), grouping like-minded young people.

The DIU formation served as a new start of the Korean revolution to be guided by the President and a landmark event in shaping the destiny of the nation.

It also marked the beginning of the building of a new revolutionary party in Korea.

The revolutionary cause started by the President has been carried forward successfully on the basis of the DIU tradition under the outstanding leadership of Kim Jong Il.

The long history of the Korean revolution launched with the DIU formation shows that the road of independence and Songun (military-first) politics leads to justice and truth and that Juche-based socialism is the most scientific and promising one capable of meeting the popular masses' demand for independence.

The Korean army and people are determined to build a thriving nation, carrying forward the DIU tradition and remaining faithful to the ideas and leadership of Kim Jong Il.
