Pyongyang, October 17 (KCNA) -- KCNA Monday released a detailed report on the completion of the first-phase of the Hungnam gasification project.

The report says:

The first-phase gasification project was completed in a matter of two and half years at the Hungnam Fertilizer Complex, the nation's leading chemical industrial base, to start fertilizer production.

The Herculean project requiring the use of the cutting-edge technology and modern equipment has been completed by Korean workers and technicians' efforts and with their own technology in a brief span of time. This is another miracle to be specially recorded in the history of construction. This means a new speed of the great onward march towards 2012.

The Hungnam gasification by brown coal is one of the last instructions of President Kim Il Sung.

Leader Kim Jong Il visited Hungnam Fertilizer Complex several times including his visit in February Juche 98 (2009). He repeatedly visited related units including Ryongsong Machine Complex and Rakwon Machine Complex.

He specified the orientation and ways of completing Korean-style gasification process in the shortest possible period and led the officials and workers to undertake the project in an audacious and big way.

All the construction sites of gasification processes were alive with a high-pitched drive.

Strong workforce was organized and designing, construction, the supply of materials and manufacture of equipment were done under a coordinated operation.

The gas generator, key process in the project, was designed in a Korean way and the project was pushed forward in a three dimensional way.

Massive earth digging including groundwork for a huge oxygen plant and concrete placing were carried out in a matter of months.

In seven months after breaking the ground, the biggest gas generator building soared up and the first phase gasification project entered its full-scale construction.

The building of 15 000 cubic meters capacity oxygen plant, another key process in the gasification project, was a gigantic struggle demonstrative of the creative ingenuity of the working people and the great potentials of self-supporting national economy.

The technicians and workers of the Rakwon Machine Complex manufactured the above-said oxygen plant four months earlier than scheduled and sent it to Hungnam in February 2010.

The workers and technicians of the Rakwon Machine Complex and the Equipment Assembly Complex introduced a peculiar technical innovation proposal including ground expanding assembly method, thus assembling the oxygen plant in a little more than 100 days which would have taken more than one year at a normal speed, and succeeding in trial operation.

The Grand People's Study House, University of Science and other related units successfully established comprehensive control system of the oxygen separation processes.

The Ryongsong Machine Complex produced by their own efforts and with their own technology scores of key equipment needed for the project and supplied them.

The manufacture of a centrifugal compressor with the capacity of 90 000 cubic meters helped make a breakthrough toward the construction of the oxygen separation process.

Manufacture of ammonia compounding tower weighing hundreds of tons and condensation and separation tower was completed as scheduled.

The workers of the Ryongsong Machine Complex successfully built hydrogen purification towers, the most important structures in the process of producing ammonia gas, by new tower cover processing method of Korean style, providing a sure guarantee for completing carbonic acid gas purification process.

The researchers of the Hamhung Branch of the State Academy of Sciences and the Hungnam Fertilizer Complex researched and completed in their own way several catalysts needed for ammonia production by brown coal gasification, thus making it possible to ensure Juche character in fertilizer production.

The members of February 17 shock brigade of scientists and technicians developed lots of valuable programs including a simulation interpretative program, laying a solid ground for establishing computer-aided automatic control system of overall production processes.

As a result, trial operations of separate units of first-phase project were finished in succession and gas generator No. 1, key process of gasification, was fired up in August.

This miracle proved that no matter how desperately the imperialist reactionaries may try to block socialist construction, their moves will never work on the DPRK as its people are rallied around the leader in single mind and that no force on earth can bar the Korean people from carrying forward the revolutionary tradition of self-reliance.
