Natural Disasters in Different Countries

Pyongyang, October 18 (KCNA) -- Floods in Vietnam's southern Mekong delta provinces killed at least 35 people and inundated about 60 000 houses, plus 6 000 hectares of paddy fields submerged as of Thursday, reported the local online VNExpress. Mexico and Central American countries suffered from flood disasters accompanied by storm and heavy rains. As of October 14 the number of victims totaled over 100 000. 50 000 residents suffered from damage in Tabasco State, Mexico and 1 700 families were left homeless in Guatemala. At least 1 000 houses were flattened in Nicaragua and hundreds of families were forced to evacuate in the southern region of Haiti. In El Salvador six people were left dead and three missing. 6 500 residents were forced to seek emergency shelter and schools closed. The president of El Salvador declared a state of national emergency following the flood disasters. |
