Rodong Sinmun Calls for Ending North-South Confrontation

Pyongyang, October 19 (KCNA) -- To remove the state of hostility and confrontation between compatriots is an urgent demand under the serious circumstances and conditions of the north-south relations at present. Rodong Sinmun Wednesday says in a by-lined article in this regard: The Korean nation will suffer from the hostility and confrontation between the north and the south and outside forces will fish in troubled waters. Koreans should not remain an onlooker to the political and military confrontation between the north and the south which fuels distrust within the nation, harass peace and hinder the reunification of the country but put an end to it at any cost. To this end, it is necessary to put an end to the policy of confrontation pursued by the south Korean authorities that antagonizes the compatriots' idea and system. The north-south relations have hit the lowest ebb that no one knows when the prevailing touch-and-go situation will lead to a nuclear war beyond the limit line of mistrust and confrontation. The blame for this entirely rests with the south Korean conservative group. South Koreans of all social standings, deeply concerned about the present north-south relations without any dialogue and cooperation, are strongly urging the authorities to retract the policy of confrontation and opt to improve the inter-Korean relations. There is no reason whatsoever for the south Korean authorities to insist on the treacherous policy of confrontation. It is necessary to orientate everything to unity and reunification on the condition of recognizing and tolerating the ideas and systems in the north and the south in the spirit of the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration. Pro-reunification movement organizations of various circles and figures at home and abroad should firmly get united under the banner of the June 15 joint declaration and strengthen visits, contacts, solidarity and alliance in order to have the south Korean conservative authorities roll back the policy of confrontation and wage dynamic patriotic struggle to promote the nation's unity and reunification. |
