Pyongyang, October 19 (KCNA) -- Western pressures on the Palestinian leadership to halt its bid for full membership in the United Nations were "illogical," Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said in a press interview Sunday.

"The pressures were difficult and unbearable," Abbas told reporters after returning from a tour in Latin America to lobby support for a UN vote on the Palestinian request to join the world body.

The pressures were political, economical and financial, Abbas added, noting that most of these threats against the Palestinians were not carried out.

The Palestinian National Authority firmly opposes such as unjust pressures and will make most efforts to realize aspiration of the Palestinians.
