Pyongyang, October 20 (KCNA) -- A seminar on supervision and estimation of the attainment of the MDGs (millennium development goals) in the DPRK took place in Pyongyang on Thursday, the World Statistics Day.

Introduced at the seminar were achievements made by the DPRK in the effort for implementing the government's policy of improving the people's living standards through the development of education and public health, sex equality ensured in all socio-economic spheres and sustained environmental development and in carrying out tasks for MDGs.

Also discussed at the seminar were results of a census conducted in the country until Juche 99 (2010) and surveys of nutritive conditions, reproductive health and energy in rural communities, as well as environment for international cooperation, problems arising in attaining MDGs by 2015 and measures to solve them.

A lecture and other events took place on Thursday to mark the World Statistics Day.
