Pyongyang, October 21 (KCNA) -- A spokesman of the Central Committee of the Union of Agricultural Workers of Korea released a statement on Friday as regards the struggle launched by the south Korean farmers and other people from all walks of life to oppose the ratification of the U.S.-south Korea "Free Trade Agreement" at the puppet National Assembly.

Participating in the struggle are the Federation of Peasants Associations, Peasants' Solidarity, Emergency Measure Committee of Farming, Stockbreeding and Fishery for Checking the Conclusion of U.S.-south Korea FTA and other organizations related to the agriculture and farmers across south Korea as well as opposition parties and civic and public organizations.

They branded the FTA as a death sentence to agriculture and farmers, a traitorous agreement destroying agriculture and killing farmers and a ruinous treaty devoid of balance and sovereignty.

Recalling this fact, the statement said:

The struggle is a very righteous and just patriotic one for rejecting the dependence on and submission to foreign forces and defending national dignity, sovereignty and rights to existence.

The Central Committee of the Union of Agricultural Workers of Korea extends full support and solidarity to the south Korean people's righteous struggle to resolutely reject the conclusion of the sycophantic and humiliating agreement and defend the national sovereignty and rights to existence.

The U.S.-south Korea FTA is a traitorous agreement which allows intensified colonial domination and plunder and violation of the people's rights to existence to deteriorate their living and makes the agriculture and all other economic fields completely dependent on the U.S.

The south Korean farmers will suffer most from the agreement if it is adopted and put into practice.

The surplus agricultural and livestock products of the U.S. will flood the south Korean markets to replace the south Korean agricultural products of low competitiveness and bring low income and huge debt to the farmers, thus driving them to despair and death.

How can the south Korean farmers accept such a humiliating traitorous agreement which will destroy the agriculture and kill them?

They have barely managed to live so far due to the U.S. domination and subordination and the pro-U.S. traitors' sycophantic acts.

The farmers suffer immeasurable damage from the forced sale of U.S. surplus agricultural products, the puppet group's opening of the markets for them, improvement project of four large rivers on the farmland and the projects of U.S. military bases, all that have become ever more unscrupulous after the present conservative group came to power.

However, the puppet group is trying to railroad a "motion calling for ratification of FTA" at the NA, kowtowing to the U.S. to prolong its remaining days.

The conclusion of the agreement may bring wealth and fame to big businesses and privileged pro-American quarters which account for one percent of the south Korean population but greater disaster and ruin to the overwhelming majority of people.

The puppet conservative authorities and the "Grand National Party" will have to pay for their traitorous crimes as they sacrifice the economic sovereignty and people's rights to existence to the U.S., not content with reducing south Korea to a colony and a base for nuclear war of the U.S.

The only way out for the south Korean farmers and other people to lead a genuine life is to put en end to the U.S. military occupation and domination and wipe out the pro-U.S. sycophantic forces.

The south Korean people should put an end to the U.S. colonial occupation that has lasted more than half a century, check the conclusion of the FTA and sternly punish the traitors.
