Pyongyang, October 22 (KCNA) -- South Korea is swept by waves of horrifying fascist suppression with the Seoul mayoral election close at hand.

Rodong Sinmun Saturday observes this in a by-lined article.

The successive conservative forces of south Korea have maintained their "power", resorting to the fascist suppression, the article notes, and goes on:

All the policies of the conservative forces are characterized by their unpopular and treacherous nature and their main ruling method is to resort to the fascist suppression of the people's will and wishes at the point of bayonet.

The "Grand National Party" suffered a bitter debacle in the elections last year and this year, hated and forsaken by the people. It is now becoming vociferous about "cleanup" and "change" in a bid to win popularity.

The conservative authorities replaced bosses of judicature including the president of the Supreme Court and the chief prosecutor with ill-famed fascist elements before the above-said election. Meanwhile, they have reinforced their repressive system and forces as evidenced by the massive bolstering of the National Intelligence Service, prosecution and police and the restoration of the "council for security measures" in the period of the military dictatorship, etc.

Facing the worst ruling crisis, denounced by the people, the conservative group is now seeking a way out of it in intensifying the fascist suppression. By creating a terror-ridden atmosphere under the pretext of "security" through the racket of brutal crackdown the group seeks to put down the daily mounting anti-"government" struggle of people of various circles and block the advance of the forces for democratic reforms. Its immediate aim is to carry out the Seoul mayoral "election" and, furthermore, "National Assembly election" and the "presidential election" next year in a bid to stay in power.

The conservative group's fascist suppression should be condemned as reckless anti-reunification acts to quell the people's daily growing desire for achieving reunification through alliance with the north and escalate the confrontation with the north.

This is, however, nothing but the last-ditch efforts of those who lived out their days.
