Pyongyang, October 22 (KCNA) -- Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea, chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission and supreme commander of the Korean People's Army, gave field guidance to the Kwangdok Pig Farm. He was accompanied by Kim Jong Un, vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission of the WPK, Jang Song Thaek, alternate member of the Political Bureau of the WPK Central Committee and vice-chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK, and Kim Kyong Ok, first vice department director of the WPK Central Committee. Kim Jong Il was briefed on the farm before a map showing its panoramic view. Then he went to a room devoted to the farm's history where he looked back with deep emotion on the glorious course covered by the farm under the leadership of President Kim Il Sung. The President visited the newly built farm on November 30, 1971 and indicated the path to be taken by the farm, Kim Jong Il said, adding the every corner of the country is associated with the efforts of the President dedicated to the army and people. Going round several places including a combined control room, fattening pen and breeding pen, Kim Jong Il learned in detail about technological updating, technical equipment, breeding and management and meat processing. He expressed great satisfaction with the fact that the party members and other working people of the farm are increasing meat and processed meat production after finishing the huge technological updating and modernization project in a brief span of time. He highly estimated their feats. He dropped in at Fattening Pen No. 9 which was visited by the President. Very pleased to see swarms of fat pigs, he said it is important to set up air conditioning and ventilation system in pig pens. At the breeding pen with the capacity of 20 000 piglets a year, he learned about breeding pigs and ways of cross-breeding. He estimated the farm for having put the production on a normal footing based on protein insect breeding center suited to the conditions of the farm. Greatly satisfied with the processed meat production base which can produce more than 200 tons of canned pork, salamis and sausages a year, he called for producing more canned pork and other processed meat specially favored by soldiers. He repeatedly expressed satisfaction over the fact that the officials and employees of the farm have put the production of pork on a scientific and intensive basis as required by the new century and laid a solid foundation for improving the diet of the soldiers. He set forth important tasks for the management and operation of the farm. He expressed expectation and conviction that the officials and employees of the farm would strive to implement the WPK's policy of stock-breeding and thus supply soldiers with more meat and processed meat. |
