Pyongyang, October 29 (KCNA) -- Media of south Korea on Thursday described the defeat of the "Grand National Party" in the recent Seoul mayoral election as punishment by the public. KBS said that the south Korean people turned away their faces from the GNP in the recent by-election, dealing a telling blow to the rule by the authorities and the ruling party. Pak Won Sun, an independent candidate, won in the Seoul mayoral race by defeating Ra Kyong Won, a candidate from the GNP, it noted, adding this confirmed the people's distrust in the present authorities. Yonhap News reported the election results reflected the strong demands for change in the policies related to such issues as youth unemployment, registration fee, house price and job. Seoul Sinmun in its editorial said that the election gave an alarm to the present political camp and taught a lesson that if they go against the people's will they would go to ruin. Hangyore said in an editorial that the people's mindset erupted through the Seoul mayoral election was punishment of the present "government" and the arrogant GNP. The conservative forces strengthened their nexus more than ever before but eventually failed to block the great public sentiment, it said. The recent election gave the GNP a lesson that there would be no future for the GNP if it continues downplaying the trend of huge changes. |
