Pyongyang, November 1 (KCNA) -- Inhabitants on Jeju Island and members of civic and public organizations, peace champions, religionists and opposition lawmakers of south Korea demanded a halt to the construction of the Jeju naval base. They staged the fifth citizens action of south Korea around the Jeju City Office on Oct. 29.

The participants accused the military authorities of hypocritically asserting that the base construction is aimed to protect the southern transport route.

It has been proved at the recent "National Assembly" session that it was also a lie when they asserted that civilians, too, will be able to use the base if it is built, they noted.

They denounced the military for unhesitatingly committing all illegal acts such as working out two different texts of the basic agreement on the construction of the naval base.

The halt to the naval base construction is the demand of not only the inhabitants of Jeju Island but other people, they said.

Then they made a demonstration march.
