Natural Disasters Expand in US, Vietnam

Pyongyang, November 3 (KCNA) -- Heavy rains hit provinces of the Mekong delta in Vietnam, causing flood damage.

The flood left 58 people dead and over 930 kilometers of road, 823 bridges, 1,500 kilometer-long waterway and irrigation facilities were destroyed as of Oct. 31.

The damages accounted for about 71.4 millions U.S. dollars.

The damage caused by the snowstorm out of season in the northeastern area of the United States is on the steady increase.

Snow was about 70 centimeters high in the northern part of New Jersey State and snow in Massachusetts and Pennsylvania States was more than 30 centimeters high.

Tremendous snowfall accompanied by violent wind left 12 dead as of Tuesday.

Roads and railways were destroyed and air flights suspended. As a consequence, a lot of people were stranded.

A state of emergency was declared in 13 counties of some states including Connecticut and New York States and at least 2 million houses in the northern part of Maryland State and Massachusetts State are left without power.

It would take about a week to put the situation under control and this heavy snow out of season is the first time in more than one hundred years of history of meteorological observation, VOA reported.
