Jordan and UAE Welcome Palestinian UNESCO Membership

Pyongyang, November 3 (KCNA) -- The lower house of Jordan's parliament on Tuesday welcomed the decision by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to grant the Palestinians a full membership in the organization.

The lower house commended the countries that voted for the Palestinian membership in the organization. It reiterated support for the Palestinians and their efforts to realize their legitimate rights.

It also condemned a decision by the United States to halt funding for UNESCO as a punishment for its decision.

The United Arab Emirates' Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Anwar Mohammed Gargash welcomed Tuesday the Palestinians' accession to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as a full member.

UAE congratulates the Palestinian people and their leaders on the historic achievement, which is one of the positive steps that set the Palestinian state in its natural place in the international arena, he noted.

The Palestinians' accession to the UNESCO is the result of conscious diplomacy adopted by the Palestinian National Authority, he said.

He expressed the wish for building on this positive step to consolidate the legitimate role of the Palestinian state in the international arena.
