Kim Tu Ryang, Artist of Ri Dynasty

Pyongyang, November 7 (KCNA) -- Kim Tu Ryang (1696-1763) was a realistic artist of Ri Dynasty (1392-1910). Kim represented the realistic drawing art developed under the influence of realism in the first half of the 18th century. He systemically learnt drawing from his father and maternal grandfather in his childhood. He was good at figure, landscape, animal and other paintings. Typical of his paintings is a Korean painting "A Cowboy", well known in other countries. Leader Kim Jong Il praised this painting for its well brush and lifelike depiction. The artist contributed to the development of the realistic drawing art in the country with his paintings portraying working people and their assiduity and optimistic life. |
