Moscow, November 7 (KCNA) -- The day of people's unification, the state holiday, was marked in Russian on Nov. 4.

A reception was given in Nizhuny Novgorod with Russian President Dmitri Medvedev attending.

Medvedev in a speech at the reception said that Russia has such a great good point as the harmony of nations bequeathed by the ancestors down through centuries. The consciousness of citizens and loving care for the country are always the basic source of unifying Russia, a multiracial country, he noted.

This still serves as a mental and moral basis and assets of Russia carrying out new tasks such as the building of modern economy and modernization of all social life, he declared.

Only when all the Russian people value the historic and cultural heritages and mental tradition of the country in reliance on mutual understanding and unity, can the social policies of the government be truly effective, he stressed.

Meanwhile, events such as demonstrations and rallies were held in the capital city and other major cities on the same occasion.
