Koguryo Town in Japan

Pyongyang, November 15 (KCNA) -- There is Koguryo town in Saitama Prefecture, Japan.

Yak Kwang, a royal family member of Koguryo kingdom (277 B.C.-668 A.D.), went to Japan as an envoy but stayed there with the kingdom going down in 668. He gathered exiles and ruined people from Koguryo near Tokyo and settled down there.

At that time people from Koguryo, Paekje and Silla were welcomed in Japan as they taught Japanese people how to ride horse and do farming and greatly influenced them in architectural and fine art development.

Populated by Koguryo people, the area turned into a granary.

After the death of Yak Kwang, the villagers built Koryo Shrine for him. The shrine is still preserved there.

They have usually abbreviated Koguryo to Koryo.

In Koguryo town schools, post office, mountain, mountain pass, buildings and railway stations were all named after Koryo. -0-

Many historic relics still remain around Koryo Shrine.
