Ginkgo Tree in Mt. Ryongak

Pyongyang, November 15 (KCNA) -- A 500-odd-year-old ginkgo tree stands near Popun Temple in Mt. Ryongak, one of the scenic spots in the capital city of Pyongyang.

The tree is 28 meters high, 3.7 meters round at the bottom and 16.5 meters in its crown.

It has three trunks in the lower part and the trucks are ramified into many branches at the height of 2.5 meters, forming a broom-shaped crown.

The trunks are 1.8 meters, 2 meters and 1.7 meters round respectively in the middle.

It has been told that three youngsters planted three ginkgo trees as a token of swearing to be brothers, when they were visiting the temple.

The three trees had grown into one to be listed as a national treasure.
