Beijing, November 14 (KCNA) -- Chinese Vice-President Xi Jinping on Wednesday called for enhancing the women's role.

Addressing the opening ceremony of the International Forum "Woman and Sustainable Development" held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, he said that women are a powerful driving force of the civilization and advance of humankind.

With no progress of women's work, it is impossible to make a progress of the whole society, and without world women's active participation, it is impossible to achieve a sustainable development of human society, Xi said.

China is ready to join other countries to encourage women to strive to win a durable peace and build a harmonious world, he added.
