S. Korean Prosecution's Suppression of Pro-reunification Figures under Fire

Pyongyang, November 16 (KCNA) -- Those concerned of the South Headquarters of the Pan-national Alliance for Korea's Reunification (Pomminryon) condemned the prosecution for its anti-reunification measures.

At the Seoul Central District Court on November 9 the authorities held a final trial of former and incumbent members of the South Headquarters of Pomminryon who were indicted on the charge of the violation of the "National Security Law".

The prosecution demanded seven years of prison terms for Ri Kyu Jae, chairman of the South Headquarters of Pomminryon, eight years for Ri Kyong Won, its former secretary general, and six years for Choe Un A, its former agitation chairperson. Five years' suspension of qualifications was imposed on all of them.

The prosecution charged that they conducted activities benefiting the enemy while having contact with the north and that they have committed a heavy sin of having been involved in Pomminryon activities after their release.

Ri Kyu Jae in his final statement said the way the U.S. and dictatorial regime suppress pro-reunification figures by invoking the NSL is just the same as the one used by the Japanese imperialists who suppressed fighters for national independence by dint of the "law on maintenance of public order" in the past.

Ri Kyong Won said that all the activities he has conducted so far are patriotic ones to be least shamed of and his children would achieve reunification without fail following in his footstep.

Choe Un A said her faith would remain unchanged whatever suppression she may face.
