Pyongyang, November 17 (KCNA) -- Won Jin Uk, secretary-general the South Headquarters of the Pan-national Alliance for Korea's Reunification (Pomminryon), on Nov. 12 made clear the stand against the prosecution's suppression of those concerned of the organization. The prosecution demanded heavy penalties for Chairman Ri Kyu Jae and former Secretary General Ri Kyong Won of the South Headquarters of Pomminryon and Choe Un A, former chairperson for the headquarters publicity committee, on charges of violation of the "National Security Law", he said, adding: They are pro-reunification patriots who have striven for reconciliation and cooperation between the south and the north of Korea and its peaceful reunification. Recalling this fact, Won branded it as a challenge to the desire of all Koreans for reunification and a politically-motivated crackdown upon the movement for independent reunification. The recent punishment demanded by the present regime can never be accepted as it termed legitimate patriotic activities for reunification "illegal" and "enemy-benefiting", he stated. The South Headquarters of Pomminryon is a public and legitimate reunification movement organization working to build a pan-national reunified state by the Korean nation itself on the three principles for national reunification--independence, peaceful reunification and great national unity--laid down in the July 4 South-North Joint Statement and in the spirit of the June 15 joint declaration, he stressed, declaring: It will continue to struggle to bring earlier the new era of independent reunification, peace and prosperity by united efforts of all Koreans in the south and the north and overseas despite any suppression by the authorities. |
