Japan's Bid for Permanent UNSC Membership under Fire
|

Pyongyang, November 22 (KCNA) -- A Japanese delegate, when discussing the agenda item of the plenary meeting of the 66th UN General Assembly "issue of expansion of members of the UN Security Council and equal right of representation", said Japan has steadily strived to make contributions to global peace and security for six decades after the war. Meanwhile, the Japanese authorities busied themselves holding an international meeting on the UNSC reform and doing diplomatic dealings with some countries to get permanent membership of the UNSC. Minju Joson Tuesday runs a bylined commentary in this regard. It says: Japan's bid for permanent membership of the UNSC is ridiculous action of those who are not aware of where they stand. The UN post is too responsible to be bestowed on Japan. It would be waste of a seat and disgrace to the UN to allow a permanent seat of the UNSC to Japan, a country acting a puppet of the United States. In the past Japan invaded Korea and other Asian countries and committed hideous crimes against humanity including massacres, plunder of natural resources and sexual slavery banned by international law. It is highly illogical for Japan with dirty and blood-woven past to eye a permanent seat of UNSC. Japan must stand trial for its human rights abuses and other crimes, not seeking the permanent UNSC membership. It would be well advised to take the path indicated by justice and human conscience, though belatedly. It is the only way for Japan to save itself from the final destruction. |
