Pyongyang, November 22 (KCNA) -- There is a pagoda dating back to the period of Koryo kingdom (early 10th century-late 14th century) in Hunguk Temple in Kaesong city, DPRK. It was erected by a famous, patriotic general Kang Kam Chan in 1021. Originally it was a square-shaped five-storey pagoda made of trimmed granite but only the stylobate, first story and three roof stones remain. Each side of the stylobate is 1.71 meters long and the remaining pagoda is 2.61 meters high. The stylobate is patterned with lotus flowers, decorated with window and lock and inscribed with the motive of the pagoda, name of its builder and date of its erection. The pagoda is one of the nation's cultural heritages of significance in studying pagodas built in the period of Koryo kingdom. |
