Pyongyang, November 24 (KCNA) -- Piracy is harassing the world. Recent waves of pirate attacks in waters around Guinean Gulf in South Africa as well as in pirate-infested waters off Somalia have touched off concern of the international community. The troublesome pirates in Somalia are resorting to craftier methods, expanding the scope of their activities while keeping them away from the watching eyes of navies of several countries. They even advance to waters close to India thousands of kilometers away from Somalia. A report of the International Maritime Bureau clarified that the number of pirate attacks totaled 352 till September this year, a 22 percent increase from the same period last year. More than half of them occurred in waters off Somalia. 20 vessels were attacked in waters around Guinean Gulf from January to October this year. Sources concerned see legal punishment system not available for pirates as one of reasons behind piracy infesting the world. |
