Pyongyang, November 26 (KCNA) -- Jong Yon Ok, who is the chairwoman of the Management Board of the Township Co-op Farm of Yonan County, South Hwanghae Province, is a frontrunner in double cropping in the DPRK.

She began farming in the Yonbaek Plain, her birthplace, in her girlhood.

She always stood in the van in the efforts to carry through the behests of President Kim Il Sung that the farms in the plain should turn out 10 tonnes of grain per hectare and do double cropping a year.

The tideland-turned land of the farm is not suitable to double cropping.

But the farm has fully carpeted the land with manure every year.

She succeeded in potato farming ahead of rice farming and helped apply its experience to other farms.

The farm adapted new potato, wheat and barley seeds to soil and climatic conditions of the farm.

Meanwhile, the chairwoman trained more than 250 farmers as agricultural engineers and technicians and invented many technical inventions.

General Secretary Kim Jong Il appreciated her as a merited agricultural official in the Songun (military-first) era in praise of the achievements she has made in farming over the past decade.
