Pak Je Ga, Poet of Ri Dynasty

Pyongyang, November 30 (KCNA) -- Pak Je Ga (1750-1805) was a realist scholar and poet of Ri Dynasty. Pak became a realist scholar under the influence of Pak Ji Won, a realist scholar and his teacher, and devoted himself to academic pursuits. In 1790 he, together with Ri Tok Mu, Paek Tong Su and others, compiled Muyedobothongji, an illustrated book of martial arts, explaining 24 kinds of the Korean martial arts. He called for developing agriculture, handicraft, commerce, trade, traffic and transport after making a study of the country's socio-economic situation and touring Qing Dynasty three times. He also wrote poems reflecting his philosophical viewpoint, as well as the unreasonable features of the feudal society, sympathy with the poor people, realistic view of the economic development and life of peasants. |
