Rodong Sinmun Urges Abrogation of NSL

Pyongyang, December 1 (KCNA) -- There is no reason for the south Korean authorities to refuse to repeal the "National Security Law" which is contrary to the trend of the times and has become an object of criticism by the public at home and abroad.

Rodong Sinmun Thursday says this in a bylined article.

The NSL is the fascist law ruthlessly violating political freedom and democratic rights of the people, and it is the wicked anti-reunification law inciting inter-Korean confrontation and obstructing national reconciliation and unity, the article notes, and goes on:

It is the evil law without precedent in the world history of laws as it infringes upon people's freedom of thought and rights to socio-political activities.

The south Korean conservative group revived the NSL, which was once emasculated, and has invoked it to ruthlessly trample down the elementary achievements for democracy gained by the people at the cost of their blood. This is an unpardonable crime against human rights.

The NSL defines the DPRK as "anti-state organization", thus providing legal grounds to suppress progressive parties and organizations, patriotic personages and people of different strata desirous of national reconciliation and unity and reunification through alliance with the north as "north-benefiting organizations" and "forces for overturning system".

It incriminates any contact and exchange between the north and the south.

It is an anachronistic deed for the south Korean conservative authorities to keep the NSL in force.

Now is the June 15 era of reunification in which the Koreans are achieving independent reunification, peace and prosperity by their concerted efforts.

The NSL contrary to this trend has been strongly rejected by the Koreans for its anti-reunification and fascist nature. The international community is also demanding the repeal of the NSL, terming it the evil law mercilessly violating human rights.

There is no ground for the NSL to exist any longer as it antagonizes the fellow countrymen and incriminates the struggle for national unity and reunification.
