Pyongyang, December 4 (KCNA) -- The summit of the East African Community (EAC) was held in the capital city of Burundi on Nov. 30.

Present there were heads of state and government delegates of the member nations of the EAC and delegates of the African Union, the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

The summit discussed the issues of founding a regional monetary union to cope with the global financial crisis and boosting cooperation in the fields of trade and defense.

It approved the protocol on cooperating in the defense field.
