Japan Should Not Interrupt DPRK's Peaceful Nuclear Activities:KCNA

Pyongyang, December 12 (KCNA) -- The Japanese reactionaries lobbied for the adoption of a resolution voicing "concerns" over the DPRK's uranium enrichment and construction of a light water reactor at the recent plenary session of the UN General Assembly. The DPRK can never tolerate Japan's moves as they are part of anti-DPRK maneuvers intended to violate the legitimate rights of a sovereign state. Japan, counting on the United States, has lobbied other countries in a mischievous manner in the international arena, claiming it is the "opinion of international community". However, it has brought nothing new and instead disclosed its true colors as a nuclear servant of the U.S. Explicitly speaking, the DPRK's right to peaceful use of nuclear energy is a matter of vital importance pertaining to its sovereignty and the right to development. The DPRK's uranium enrichment and construction of a light water reactor are not matter of any "concerns" as they are exercise of the legitimate right to the peaceful use of nuclear energy. The DPRK decided to build a light water reactor with its own efforts in line with the state economic development strategy in the face of the dead-end project of the reactor which was originally set to be offered from outside. The DPRK has opened to public at home and abroad every phase of its activities for developing nuclear energy. As part of its activities, the DPRK has pushed ahead with the construction of a trial light water reactor and the production of low- enriched uranium for fueling it. Several other countries have buckled down to the development and use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. Nuclear power plants built by member states of ASEAN numbered more than 430 at present. Additional 190 to 350 nuclear power plants are expected to come online in 20 years to come, according to a data available from ASEAN. It is preposterous for Japan to take issue with the nuclear activities of the DPRK defying the trend of the present times. Japan has no moral qualifications to find fault with the peaceful nuclear activities of the DPRK. It is as mum as a mouse when it comes to the U.S. plan to invest 700 billion dollars in modernization of nuclear weapons in the upcoming 10 years. This shows that it has not yet departed from its shameless policy of submitting to the U.S. Japan, under the U.S. "nuclear umbrella", sparked serious concerns of the world for the massive radioactive leakage following the explosion of a nuclear power plant. This has claimed huge toll in countries neighboring Japan. Japan has so far advocated "three non-nuclear principles". However, it had stroke a secret pact with the U.S. on allowing nuclear-capable U.S. warships to call at or pass through its territorial waters, thus increasing nuclear threat to Northeast Asia. Not content with turning the Japan's archipelago into an advance nuclear base of the U.S., Japan has persistently pressed ahead with the independent moves to go nuclear. Japan tries to find fault with the DPRK's peaceful nuclear activities for fear that its nuclear moves would touch off public criticism. Japan has always hobbled the efforts to settle the nuclear issue of the Korean Peninsula. It is shameless for it to cozy up to the American master by taking issue with the DPRK's legitimate rights and making a fuss in the international arena. As a state that has shaped internal and external policies reading the U.S. face, Japan can not get rid of its status as a political maid and faithful servant of the U.S. The politicians of Japan had better behave gently, aware that interference in its neighbors' state strategic issues will damage the national interests. |
