Kim Myong Suk, Blind Kayagum Player

Pyongyang, December 13 (KCNA) -- Kim Myong Suk, a 56-year-old woman, is well known for wonderfully playing Kayagum, a string instrument peculiar to the Korean nation. She is working at Pyongyang Kim Won Gyun Conservatory.

Kim, born blind, is a left-hand player.

She, with a natural bent for music, began learning how to play Kayagum at the age of 5. Her ability was cultivated thanks to the socialist education system.

Working at the conservatory, Kim developed her unique technical skill, contributing to the compilation of new Kayagum schools and teaching materials.

She was honored with the title of Merited Artist.
