Light Industry Makes Good Headway in DPRK

Pyongyang, December 14 (KCNA) -- Many light industry factories have appeared or undergone technological updating throughout the DPRK. The Pyongyang and Sinuiju textile mills and Pyongyang Mechanical Pencil Factory have put their production processes on a modern basis. The Hamhung Woolen Textile Mill reconstructed the converting and spinning shop to begin producing vinalon cloth, while the Chongjin Chemical Fibre Mill built a rayon production process. Footwear factories have produced quality synthetic leather, begun home production of supplementary materials, including adhesive, and developed an estimated 200 kinds of new products. The Kumsong Foodstuff Factory began producing wheat cakes stuffed with meat and the Pyongyang Stevia Processing Factory has turned into a large sweetening producer. The Pyongyang Children's Foodstuff Factory, Susongchon, Paekunsan and other combined foodstuff factories have boosted production after modernizing their production processes. Changsong, Hoeryong, Kanggye, Tanchon, Musan, Riwon and other cities and counties have updated locally-run factories as required by the new century. Hundreds of thousands of quality goods were displayed at the 2nd Commodity Exhibition of Pyongyang Department Store No. 1, Autumn Commodity Fair of the Pyongyang Underground Shop and National Exhibition of Consumer Goods. Under the wise leadership of Kim Jong Il, the DPRK has directed great effort to developing the light industry to make a great progress in improving the people's living standard again this year. |
