Moscow, December 13 (KCNA) -- The president of the Russian Academy of Geopolitics voiced deep concern about the U.S. military approach to the boundaries of Russia and China in Central Asia.

Leonid Ivashov told a recent press conference that the U.S. and NATO are seeking to keep some 15 military bases in Afghanistan and some of their weapons there even after withdrawing their troops by 2014.

This development will pose a threat to Russia and China, he said.

The appearance of new foreign military bases near the Russian and Chinese borders will lead to a great change in the geopolitical situation of the region, compelling the strategic partners to cope with the security threat with concerted efforts, he predicted.

He also called for taking a preemptive measure to respond to the U.S. strategy aimed to make a comeback to Asia.
