Pyongyang, December 16 (KCNA) -- The Kwangbop Temple, which was built in the period of Koguryo Kingdom (277 B.C.-668 A.D.), has been preserved in Mt. Taesong in Pyongyang. The Buddhist temple had Pogwang and Myongbu halls and Chilsong Shrine, according to a monument to the temple which was rebuilt in 1727. The temple was destroyed by the U.S. bombing in the period of the Fatherland Liberation War (1950-1953) but was restored to the original state in Juche 79 (1990) thanks to the policy of the Workers' Party of Korea for preserving cultural assets. Conspicuous in the temple are the Taeung Hall, a five-storeyed octagonal pagoda, Tongsung and Sosung shrines. President Kim Il Sung visited the temple on February 12, Juche 80 (1991) and called for properly preserving the temple, one of the cultural heritages of the Korean nation. |
