Pyongyang, December 24 (KCNA) -- Supreme Commander Kim Jong Il strengthened the Korean People's Army (KPA) into a revolutionary strong one equipped with modern offensive and defensive means capable of defeating any powerful enemy.

With a deep insight into the fast-changing international political situation in the 1990s and requirements of the developing revolution he started pursuing Songun (military-first) politics with the KPA as the main force for the first time in history.

He wisely led the army to enhance its political and ideological might and military strength.

He also guided all commanding officers to successfully work out operational plans and command battles to suit modern war.

He inspected many units to teach Juche-based training methods and tactics and encourage soldiers to intensify training under the slogan "Training is also a battle!"

Inspired by his uninterrupted inspection of frontline units, the KPA soldiers displayed unparalleled bravery and performed heroic feats in defending the country.
