Pyongyang, January 6 (KCNA) -- Yew plants struck their roots in the International Friendship Greenhouse at the Central Botanical Garden, drawing attention of visitors. This is the rare plant recently presented to President Kim Il Sung, leader Kim Jong Il and the dear respected Kim Jong Un by Chai Long, great-grandson of Chai Shiying, the Chinese related to the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle. Chinese letters lauding Kim Il Sung, Kim Jong Il and Kim Jong Un are engraved on the surface of the flowerpots specially made in Jingdezhen City famous for ceramics. He climbed steep mountains in the northeastern area of China for several months and finally succeeded in collecting a ten-year-old yew plant, 8-year-old and 5-year-old yew plants respectively. This plant is known to live about 1 500 years at maximum and be distributed in the northeastern area of China, the Far East region of Russia and other places. Having a great medicinal value, the plant is good for adding to the scenic beauty of gardens, parks and recreation grounds. |
