The armed forces of the country should be prepared to beat back any possible threat from outside, he said, stressing that Russia needs the strongest armed forces with high militancy and maneuverability.

Putin stated that he would continue pushing forward the massive modernization of the armed forces in case he is elected to be president.

He also said he would not allow any unilateral step which does not consider the view of Russia in the international arena but make relevant appraisal and take corresponding step.
