The meeting discussed an issue of opening a landmark phase for independent reunification this year.

Kim Ryong Song, chairman of the North Side Committee for Implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration, in his report said that leader Kim Jong Il's history of his leadership for national reunification was a glorious revolutionary history recorded with immortal exploits, adding that the north and the south could greet a new era of independent reunification thanks to north-south summits and the June 15 joint declaration.

He referred to the fact that the Lee Myung Bak group of traitors' moves to escalate the confrontation threw a stumbling block in the way of national reunification, adding that it is the firm stand of the DPRK to finally settle accounts with it which rubbed salt into the wounds of the compatriots struck with grief over the great loss to the nation and staged saber-rattling against them.

Then followed speeches.

An appeal to all the Koreans at home and abroad was adopted at the meeting.

The appeal said:

All fellow countrymen at home and abroad should unite close under the banner of patriotism irrespective of ideology, political view and religion and make a clean sweep of the anti-reunification forces.

Whoever values the future of oneself and one's family and is concerned about the destiny and future of the Korean nation should come out in a struggle for averting a war and defending peace.

The North Side Committee for Implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration proposes compatriots in the north and the south and abroad to meet and open common reunification events of the nation with splendor on the occasions of the 12th anniversary of the publication of the June 15 joint declaration and the 5th anniversary of the publication of the Oct. 4 declaration to promote reconciliation and unity of the nation and bring about a decisive turn in accomplishing the cause of national reunification this significant year.

It also proposes holding reunification gatherings and conducting more brisk solidarity activities among organizations of people of various strata and those in various fields in the north and the south this year.

The above-said committee ardently calls once again upon all the fellow countrymen at home and abroad to unite close under the banner of the north-south joint declaration and more dynamically turn out in the national reunification movement, bearing deep in mind the patriotic mission they have assumed before the era and the nation and thus make a breakthrough towards independent reunification this year without fail.

Present there were Honorary Co-Chairpersons of the committee Yang Hyong Sop, vice-president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, Ro Tu Chol, vice-premier, Kim Yong Dae, chairman of the C.C., the Korean Social Democratic Party, and Ryu Mi Yong, chairwoman of the C.C., the Chondoist Chongu Party, the chairman, vice-chairpersons and members of the committee, members of its various sub-committees, members of the North Headquarters of the Pan-national Alliance for Korea's Reunification and the Pan-national Alliance of Youth and Students for Korea's Reunification and officials concerned.
